Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certificate validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium size router and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. CCNA curriculum includes basic mitigation of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills. This includes (but is not limited to) the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Open Shortest Path First Protocol(OSPF), Routing Information Protocol Version2 (RIPv2). It also includes VLANs, Ethernet, Access Control Lists (ACLs), Ether-Channel and troubleshooting methodology. This certificate is designed for students with advanced problem solving and analytical skills. The curriculum offers a comprehensive and theoretical learning experience for analytical students, and uses language that aligns well with engineering concepts. Interactive activities are embedded in the curriculum, along with detailed, theoretical labs.

Riverside City College mission to provide high-quality, affordable education by engaging a diverse community of learners and offering career-technical courses which lead to locally-approved and state approved certificates. The Cisco Networking Certificate of Achievement fulfils the college mission in several ways. First, all courses within the certificate foster critical thinking by requiring students to apply and adapt skills, and concepts learned, to tasks encountered in the workplace. Second courses within the Cisco Networking Certificate of Achievement lead to highly recognized industry certifications. CompTIA Network +, Cisco Certified Network Associate(CCNA) Security, and Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician(CCENT). These industry certifications provide students a level of information competency technological literacy and information security skills required for entry-level employment in a number of workplaces and academic environments.
Finally, the goals and objectives of this program and in alignment with Riverside Community College District’s Master Plan Strategic Theme 4, Community Collaboration and Partnership, Goal 1. “Refine and promote programs in Career and Technical Education, Economic Development, and Community Education that improves the competency and competitive capabilities of service area incumbent workers. Students who want to enhance their skills for promotion may use all of the courses. The overall mission of the Cisco Networking Certificate of Achievement is to motivate, encourage, and support students by providing a favorable environment to educate them socially, professionally, and cognitively as a foundation to pursue their college and career goals, as well as becoming live long learners.
The Cisco Networking Academy program is an existing, locally approved certificate, which has been in existence at the college for 15 Years. Discipline program review, meeting discussions, and advisory input affirm the need and relevance of information Cisco Networking and security courses. Locally approved certificate completion is not listed on student’s transcripts. The discipline decided to create a new Cisco Networking Certificate to meet the needs of industry. The most recent advisory committee meeting affirms community support from employers in the City of Riverside, County of Riverside and local personnel-service agency, all of which are willing to work with Cisco networking students in paid or unpaid internships as a the first step toward full-time employment.
