The Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck program offers courses to prepare students for an entry level position in the medium and heavy truck industries. The program trains in the major system areas of heavy-duty trucks and is divided in accordance to the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) areas of testing of the Truck Series (T-Series) certification tests. The program will be subdivided to offer training in stackable certificate areas. The first certificate in the program is the Diesel Engine Service, Diagnosis and Repair Technician Certificate. Students will then have the option to complete the courses required for the Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Service, Diagnosis and Repair Master Technician Certificate.
Upon completion of the required courses, students will receive the Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Service, Diagnosis and Repair Master Technician Certificate. This certificate requires the completion of the courses required for the Diesel Engine Service, Diagnosis and Repair Technician Certificate and the more advanced truck system courses including hydraulics, truck chassis, drivetrain and HVAC courses which provide the training needed to service, diagnose and repair the truck systems specifically found on on-highway trucks. Students completing this certificate would be prepared to work as entry-level technicians in the on-highway truck industry. This certificate would be the second in the stackable series of certificates for the MTRK program after the Diesel Engine Service, Diagnosis and Repair Technician Certificate.

The goals of the Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck program include building a program that would provide the training needed in the technical areas of repairing, maintaining and diagnosing of medium and heavy truck systems. The Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Service, Diagnosis and Repair Master Certificate would prepare students to enter the workforce as an entry-level technician trained to work on all systems relating to on-highway vehicles. Obtaining the certificate would include successfully completing the courses required for the Diesel Engine Service, Diagnosis and Repair Certificate as well as the more advanced courses such as the hydraulic systems, truck chassis, drivetrain and HVAC courses. This would provide the basis for students wishing to complete the Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Service, Diagnosis and Repair Master Certificate and/or the Stationary Power Generation Service, Diagnosis and Repair Technician Certificate. This would also increase the employability of the student as it would allow potential employers to recognize the student’s specific training areas and preparedness for employment.
The Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Service, Diagnosis and Repair Master Technician Certificate requires 20.5 units to be completed. These courses will prepare students for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Truck Series (T-Series) Exams in the certification areas of T3 – Drivetrain, T4 – Truck Brakes, T-5 – Truck Suspension, T7 – HVAC. Program Learning Outcomes of this course of study include students having the knowledge and ability to explain the theory and operation of heavy truck chassis systems, explain the theory and operation of truck drivetrains, explain the theory and operation of truck HVAC systems, demonstrate safety procedures when working on heavy duty trucks, communicate effectively to owners and operators of heavy duty trucks the required maintenance and repairs needed, demonstrate a thorough understanding of workplace expectations and apply proper troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair heavy duty truck systems.
