In 2009 the Architecture Department, which houses our Construction Management program, created two new certificates:• A locally-approved 15-unit certificate in Construction Management: Core Skills• A 30-unit Certificate of Achievement in Construction Management: Advanced Skills. Based upon discussions with our Advisory Board, it was determined that revisions were required to our Core Skills Certificate Program. These revisions reflect changes in the Construction Management Industry that have taken place since the current programs were created, keeping our programs aligned with industry needs. The revised Core Skills Program is designed to enable completion within two semesters. The current Core Skills program, consisting of CM 100, CM 110, CM 240, CM 244, and CM 248, requires a minimum of three semesters to complete, due to class prerequisites. Together, these revisions will increase the effectiveness of the Core Skills Program by better meeting the requirements for entry-level positions and by allowing students to complete this program in a reduced time frame. Two courses, CM 240 and CM 244, were removed from the previous Core Skills Program, and three courses, CM 10, BIM 120 and BSEN 74, have been added. The changes have raised the unit total to 19 units, necessitating State Chancellor’s Office approval.
