Mt. San Jacinto College Nursing Program provides academic excellence that prepares students to lead and transform nursing practice to meet the healthcare needs of our diverse communities and bridge equity gaps. Program Learning Outcomes
Provide patient-centered care to diverse populations with various health-related conditions using the nursing process, cultural competence, and compassion based on respect for individual preferences at the entry level registered nurse generalist.
Effectively facilitate inter-professional relationships by promoting open communication, advocacy, and shared decision-making to enhance knowledge, experience, and health outcomes at the entry level registered nurse generalist.
Demonstrate accountability as a lifelong learner for the delivery of evidence-based practice when planning holistic care to achieve optimal outcomes for the patient, family, and community.
Apply legal, ethical, and regulatory principles to participate in improvement processes including the use of data to design, implement and evaluate outcomes to improve the quality and safety of healthcare systems.
Demonstrate commitment ,accountability, integrity, critical thinking and discretionary judgment in nursing practice to minimize risk of harm to patients, the healthcare team, and the community.
Utilize nursing science, information management, and technology to communicate, organize data, mitigate error, and institute change while protecting patient health information.
Function as a member of the inter-professional team and demonstrate leadership qualities such as effective communication, collaboration, delegation and constructive feedback to manage and coordinate care at the entry level registered nurse generalist.
Address implicit biases and equity gaps that exist in the healthcare environment considering global, national, and local concerns to improve outcomes.
This program addresses the program learning outcome. Admission to the program is based on a Multi-Criteria Selection process after successful completion of program prerequisites.
Every student will be assigned a clinical facility each semester in order to meet the clinical objectives required for their nursing courses. Most health care facilities also require strict standards of conduct that all students are expected and required to follow at all times. Facilities may refuse educational access to any student who does not adhere to the facility's standards of health and safety and could result in disenrollment from the program.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program admits between 20-24 students each semester while the LVN-RN Transition Program admits 12 students each Spring Semester. These numbers are capped by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). The program cannot have more than 107 students at any given time. Unless we are granted permission by the BRN for a curriculum revision, that number will remain as is. That said, our attrition rates are less than 6%. We are able to retain many of our students and allow them to graduate and successfully pass the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) because of the criteria that we have in place. Our Multi Criteria Selection Process is quite extensive and has been approved by the BRN. Community colleges throughout the state are now required to have similar criteria to ensure that students are able to succeed through the rigors of any nursing program.
The goal of the Associate Degree Nursing Program Program is to graduate safe and effective entry-level practitioners who are able to secure employment in multiple patient care settings once they have successfully passed the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX).
