The program is designed to meet the needs of the community in that the required coursework meets the state required mandate for a Special Education Master Teacher permit found in the California Permit matrix. To achieve the Certificate of Achievement:
Upon completion of the required courses with at least a “C” or “P” (pass) grade in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

There is a great need for qualified special needs early care in our community. Through our advisory board, we have noted a shortage of teachers with special needs expertise and course units.
This program is provided within the Child Development discipline, FACE Department, Education pathway.

This program is a long-standing program that has been offered for many years. There is no additional cost added to the department on behalf of this cost.
This program has not changed it is just being updated. One of the required courses had a course number change. Therefore, for enrollment and completion projections we plan to continue to offer the classes and the program for our students and ECE professionals in the community. The department plans to offer fast-track online options so that teachers already working in the field can quickly complete the units and attain their certificate of achievement.
