Advanced level yoga teachers design and instruct yoga classes, workshops, and eventually trainings for participants of various ability levels. They ensure through diligent planning, intelligent sequencing, and the inclusion of appropriate progressions of poses that each class experience is safe, effective and enjoyable for all participants. This program fulfills the requirement for the 300-hour registered yoga teacher (RYT) credential with Yoga Alliance and covers a wide range of topics from the history and philosophy of yoga, to basic alignment principles and teaching methodologies.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics states that employment of fitness trainers and instructors (including yoga instructors) is projected to grow ten percent from 2016 to 2026 which is faster than average for all occupations. Business, government, and insurance organizations continue to recognize the benefits of health and fitness programs to their employees. Incentives to join gyms and other types of health clubs are expected to increase the need for fitness trainers and instructors, including yoga instructors. The SWC Yoga Teacher Training program will give students a 300-hour advanced certification which is the advanced standard in the industry to be hired as a yoga instructor, and SWC they will be able to register with the Yoga Alliance at completion of their certificate which is the highest standard in the industry to date.

Southwestern College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program because 1) there is a supply gap; 2) there is a high number of annual job openings; however 3) entry-level wages are below the living wage.
