10-20 completions per year
To provide students with job skills needed for employment within the media production field of their choosing through germane, hands-on, real-world experiences and training.
Making modifications to our current program due to low completions and outdated or abandoned courses. There are three primary drivers for the degree modification.
1 - The degree hasn't been updated since 2012 and the media production landscape has changed significantly in that time. There are also multiple courses listed as elective options that haven't been offered for years and/or have been deactivated.
2 - As currently written, this is a 30-unit degree that requires several studio production courses which are only offered once a year with no option for Summer courses other than internships. It currently also requires several courses that teach the same or similar basic skills with no option to specialize or develop an individual academic pathway. It is also impossible for a student to complete this degree within two years while taking a 12-unit load and extremely difficult to complete within three. The number of required units is now 18.
3 - The degree's intent is to provide students with job skills while placing them into the market at a quicker rate (30 units vs. 18 units

MiraCosta recommends given a modification only as the reasons for no new programs is compelling.

Palomar college submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE does not recommend developing a *new* program for this occupation because 1) entry-level wages are below the living wage; 2) there is an oversupply in the region; and 3) there is a high number of institutions that train for this occupation. However, because this is a program modification, the COE defers to the region. The region should also note that employers typically require a bachelor's degree as the minimum educational requirement.
