This program is designed for those interested in entry level welding skills to required GTAW Aluminum, low carbon, and stainless steels. Course work includes a comprehensive study with an emphasis on application of fundamental welding techniques and safe industry practices.
Program Student Learning Outcome(s)
1. Demonstrate introductory level skills to produce quality welds in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using the GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) process.
The department expects 10-20 students to complete each year.
The basic occupational competencies students will acquire include: acquire the necessary skills to produce quality GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions; able to interpret welding symbols and drawings required for entry into the welding and metal fabrication industry; be able to interpret the text, figures and tables found in AWS (American Welding Society) D9.1 Sheet Metal Welding Code book; be prepared for an entry level welding positions as a sheet metal worker, pipefitter and welder.
This program will meet the needs of students who require certificates of lesser unit value to complete at an accelerated rate. Students who are part of the California Jobs Challenge will be the beneficiaries of this reduced unit load introductory certificate.
