Completing the coursework required for this certificate will train students for positions in river management and patrol, such that exist on many rivers and jurisdictions such as the Forest Service, Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Land Management, locally, in the western United States, and around the world.
Upon satisfactory completion of this award, the student should be prepared to:
-Possess a framework of facts, skills, and understanding of river ecology and management to make informed decisions about their personal lives, career choices, and the communities in which they live.
-Think critically about the world, solve problems using appropriate analytic skills, and be discerning about the quality of information to identify and examine real-world examples of concepts explored in coursework and their implications for river ecology and management.
-Communicate effectively across levels and disciplines utilizing a variety of methods and mediums on the subject of river ecology and management.
-Participate in a vibrant community and culture, understand others, value diversity, and encourage understanding in the subject of river ecology and management.
To earn this Certificate of Achievement, complete the course requirements with a C (or P) or better.

The goals and objectives of this award are to train students to be able to conduct the duties of river patrol rangers and other field-based river management roles.
The goals and objectives of this award are to train students to be able to conduct the duties of river patrol rangers and other field-based river management roles.
This award will be offered through the Forestry and Natural Resources program at Columbia College, which is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, flanked by two great rivers the Stanislaus and the Tuolumne, both of which used for recreational and many other purposes.
This COA nests within the Watershed Management AS and COA.
Local industry approached us to offer this program. Similar (but different) programs are offered at Lake Tahoe Community College and Feather River College.
