Bakersfield College has partnered with the California Department of General Services to upskill state custodial staff into office administrative positions. A combination of coursework and on-the-job training will be offered to prepare employees to manage office settings. The coursework will include areas such as business English, math, and general administration procedures.
The program anticipates approximately five to ten completions annually.
To offer students an opportunity to pursue a career as a personnel specialist as well as preparation for varied employment opportunities. Students will also receive an apprenticeship certification with the United States Department of Labor (DOL) and the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS).
Students must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a California Department of General Services custodial employee. Custodial staff will be afforded the opportunity to take coursework and training to upskill into office administrative positions.
