The Athletic Coaching certificate offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip you for a fulfilling career in coaching a variety of sports and fitness activities. Through a solid foundation in exercise science, physical education, and sports nutrition, you will gain the knowledge and practical skills to: Design safe and effective training programs, prevent common sports injuries, Master the fundamentals of your chosen sport(s), and Develop effective communication and motivational skills.
This program prepares you not just for immediate entry-level coaching positions in high school,collegiate, recreational, or club settings, but also for continued growth throughout your coaching career. We will guide you through essential coaching certifications, including those offered by the American Sports Education Program (ASEP) and Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), and ensure you are prepared for the NFHS coaching certifications.

The overall goal of the LACC’s CTE Athletic Coaching Certificate is to prepare students for a career in coaching athletics. This can include various coaching opportunities, such as: High school athletics, College athletics, Recreational sports leagues, Club sports, and or Private coaching.
The specific objectives of the program will focus on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to be a successful coach. Here are the objectives of LACC ‘s CTE Athletic Coaching Certificate program:
· Learning the fundamentals of coaching, including creating practice plans, setting goals, and motivating athletes.
· Understanding sports rules and strategies for specific sports or a chosen area of focus.
· Developing a coaching philosophy that emphasizes sportsmanship and athlete development.
· Gaining knowledge of injury prevention and care to ensure athlete safety.
· Strengthening communication and people skills to effectively interact with athletes, parents, and colleagues.
By successfully completing a CTE Athletic Coaching Certificate program, students will gain the qualifications to pursue coaching opportunities and be better prepared to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes.
Goals:
- Equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to coach various sports.
- Prepare graduates to pursue certification required for coaching in specific areas.
- Increase students' understanding of sports psychology, training principles, and injury prevention.
- Develop effective communication and leadership skills for interacting with athletes, parents, and - colleagues.
Objectives:
- Learn the fundamentals of exercise science and kinesiology to design safe and effective training programs.
- Gain expertise in the rules, strategies, and techniques of specific sports.
- Develop skills in scouting, evaluating talent, and motivating athletes.
- Practice creating practice plans and implementing coaching philosophies.
- Refine communication skills to deliver instructions clearly and build positive team dynamics.
- Understand ethical considerations and responsibilities associated with coaching.
Students must take 15.5 units of Required Core Courses.
Students must also take 3 units of Skills Courses. Students may take 1, 3 unit Skills Course or 3, 1 unit Skills Courses.
