This program is designed to prepare for an entry level employment as an ASL/Englishinterpreter for deaf and hearing people. Students will be trained in thevarious aspects of interpreting and upon successful completion of the programshould be prepared for entry-level work in the field (with sufficientprocessing and language fluency). As an interpreter one will function as a culturaland linguistic facilitator between deaf person(s) and hearing person(s) in avariety of settings.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will:
Developreceptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language and Fingerspelling.
Developknowledge and awareness of the similarities and differences between the DeafCulture/Deaf community and the hearing community.
Accuratelyinterpret and transliterate between ASL and English in educational settings andcommunity settings.
Applyprofessional standards, practices, and ethics, not limited to the tenets of theCode of Professional Conduct, to interpreting.
