The Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate of Achievement is part of the Automotive Technology program. It is designed as an entry level certificate, recognizing the knowledge and skills industry has identified as required for employment for entry level technicians in the automotive service and repair industry. The development of this certificate will provide a pathway of stackable credentials leading to the AS Automotive Technology.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
Perform routine maintenance on a modern vehicle at the professional level.
Perform basic service and repairs on modern automotive braking systems.
Perform basic service and repairs on modern automotive steering and suspension systems.
Exhibit professional work habits that promote safe, productive and environmentally conscious work environment.
Identify professional habits and apply these to promote themselves and the quality oftheir work.
With the addition of this basic level certificate of achievement, the program expects to increase the number of students earning a certificate or degree by 20-25 students. There are students who gain employment before completing a degree or certificate in the second year of the program. This 18 unit certificate acknowledges that employable knowledge and skills are being gained by students in the first two semesters of the program.
This program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for an entry level technician position in the automotive service and repair industry. The sequence of courses in the certificate have been identified by the industry representatives on the Automotive Technology advisory board as providing students the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed for entry level positions as technicians in the automotive service and repair industry.

Students must take AUTO 100 in their first semester. AUTO 102,106, and 111 may be taken with AUTO 100 or in the semester after AUTO 100. Prior to taking AUTO 161 or COOP 91.4 student must complete AUTO 100. The program is designed to be completed in as little as two semesters.
