The Technical Theatre Certificate of Achievement program offers a solid foundation for students to start a career in a range of entertainment industry fields, including live theatre, music, and dance performance; film and television production; and themed entertainment and corporate event production. The curriculum provides fundamental training in scenic construction, prop construction and sourcing; technical aspects of lighting equipment hanging, cabling, and focusing; flyrail rigging and operation; lighting, sound, and video console operation; and stage management and technical direction. Students learn the practical application of technical skills and creative problem solving-techniques in a collaborative and professional production scenario. In addition to working closely with their professors and instructors, students will get hands-on experience with industry professionals and guest artists in a variety of areas of theatrical production. Upon completion of this certificate, students will have acquired the skills to enter the entertainment industry, or to continue specialized training at another institution of higher learning.

The purpose of the Technical Theatre Certificate of Achievement program is to prepare students for skill-based employment in the arts and entertainment industry sector. Through this program, students will demonstrate competence in the technical skills related to a variety of theatrical production disciplines. At the completion of the program, students will possess entry-level skills in scenic and prop construction and painting; lighting instrument hanging, cabling, and focusing; rigging techniques, and lighting, sound, and video console operation. Students will also learn stage management skills, as well as safety procedures at all levels of the live entertainment processes of rehearsal, production, and performance. All the skills acquired in this program are directly applicable to the film and television and themed entertainment industries.
This certificate consists of 17 total units that are designed to be completed over two consecutive semesters.
