The Public Health Informatics professional works as part of a team in healthcare in the health care system to provide equitable health care by providing information and data which allows for informed and equitable public health decisions. The Public Health informatics I certificate is a four course (13 credits) Job Skills Certificate. There are no pre-requisites needed prior to enrollment. The public health field of informatics is very competitive and requires participants who can demonstrate a knowledge of Public Health and Informatics. Public health professionals use informatics in disease prevention and health promotion by applying information technology solutions, which allows for more equitable and effective solutions to public health problems. Positions include but are not limited to public health data science analyst, data specialist, data analyst, health informatics specialist, and medical records coordinator. To achieve the Job Skills Certificate, upon completion of the following courses with at least a ‘C’ grade in each course, the student will be awarded a Job Skills Certificate.

To offer students an opportunity to pursue a career as management analysts in public health. Students will also receive an apprenticeship certification with the United States Department of Labor (DOL) and the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS).
