Students may earn the associate degree by completing the certificate of achievement in Web Development and Design (30 units) and at least 30 units of general education courses required for MiraCosta College's Associate in Arts degree. This degree trains students in the skills necessary to gain employment in the dynamic field of web and interactive media content design, development, and delivery. Students gain skills in all phases of website design, including site planning and information architecture,user experience design (UX), user interface (UI) and graphic design, content management, web programming and production, animation and motion graphics,audio and video integration, and designing for interactivity.

The Web Development and Design Associate in Arts degree is designed for students seeking employment in occupations related to website development and digital interface design. The program trains students to develop solid concepts, design relevant projects, work collaboratively, solve problems, and communicate effectively, all while learning the appropriate software, tools and techniques to achieve these ends. Students gain skills in all phases of website design, including site planning and information architecture, user experience design (UX), user interface (UI) and graphic design, content management, web programming and production, animation and motion graphics, audio and video integration, and designing for interactivity. The program emphasizes project-based and work-based learning and students graduate with a design portfolio that can help them find creative jobs, become successful freelancers, or transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

MiraCosta, obviously, endorses as a modification that includes a streamlined version of the original program with classes consolidated and/or removed in an attempt to get students into the workforce, though, that workforce has below living wage and require a bachelors degree.

MiraCosta College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program, but supports a program modification because 1) there is a supply gap; 2) there is a high number of annual job openings; but 3) entry-level wages are below the living wage for some occupations. The colleges should also note that employers typically require a bachelor's degree as the minimum educational requirement.
