Public Health Informatics
Certificate of Achievement
The Public Health Informatics professional works as part of a team in healthcare in the health care system to provide equitable health care by providing information and data which allows for informed and equitable public health decisions. The Public Health informatics Certificate of Achievement is a five course 16 credit certificate. There are no pre-requisites needed prior to enrollment. The public health field of informatics is very competitive and requires participants who can demonstrate a knowledge of Public Health and Informatics as well as a knowledge of spread sheets and database management .Public health professionals use informatics in disease prevention and health promotion by applying information technology solutions, which allows for more equitable and effective solutions to public health problems.
Career Opportunities
Positions include but are not limited to public health data science analyst, data specialist, data analyst, health informatics specialist, and medical records coordinator. Specific Job titles include:
. **Health Data Analyst**: Analyze and interpret health data to identify trends and patterns that can inform public health decisions.
2. **Health Informatics Technician**: Assist in managing and maintaining health information systems and databases.
3. **Public Health Research Assistant**: Support research efforts by collecting, organizing, and analyzing health-related data.
4. **Epidemiology Assistant**: Assist epidemiologists in tracking and investigating disease outbreaks and public health issues.
5. **Healthcare Data Coordinator**: Coordinate and manage health data collection efforts within healthcare organizations.
6. **Healthcare IT Support Specialist**: Provide technical support for healthcare information systems and electronic health records.
7. **Public Health Educator Assistant**: Assist in developing and implementing health education programs and materials.
8. **Health Information Clerk**: Maintain and organize patient records and health information in healthcare settings.
9. **Quality Improvement Assistant**: Support efforts to improve healthcare quality by collecting and analyzing data on healthcare processes and outcomes.
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to apply the fundamental principles of public health to health informatics.
2. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to use statistical software to analyze and effectively apply descriptive and inferential statistics for each level of data.
3. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to apply appropriate statistical techniques to analyze, interpret, and present behavioral and social sciences research.
4. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to assess how information systems support public health practice, programs, and health policies.
5. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to use spreadsheets and database management systems to create reports to support health equity in public health decision making.

PBHSB20 - Introduction to Public Health (3 units)
PBHSB26 - Public Health Informatics (3 units)
PSYCB5 - Elementary Statistics for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (4 units)

Upon completion of the required courses with at least a ‘C’ or ‘P’ grade in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.
30 students per academic year and 27 annual completions
