The pharmacy technician program will prepare entry-level pharmacy technicians for employment eligibility in both retail and acute care settings.
Pharmacy Technicians serve a diverse ancillary role, assisting customers such as pharmacists, patients, and members of the healthcare team. Tasks performed will include the operational and technical duties of pharmacy technicians, under the supervision of pharmacists. Such tasks include, but are not limited to the following: operating information systems to create patient profiles from prescription and patient, preparing and labeling medicines, calculation of oral dosages of drugs, complies with federal and state legislation as well as agencies that regulate pharmacies, compounding medicinal drugs, issues medicines to customers, maintains inventory of prescription and over the counter medications, and prepares insurance claims forms. Pharmacy technicians can often find work at franchise pharmacies, hospitals and in other healthcare settings.

The student learning outcome for the Pharmacy Technology AS Degree is demonstrate proficiency in the core skills and knowledge required for entry-level employment as a pharmacy technician in various pharmacy settings.
To earn a AS Degree in Pharmacy Technology, students must complete 16.5 units of Pharmacy Technology coursework, the College of the Canyons Associates Degree General Education requirements, and the required prerequisites to gain admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program.
