This program prepares students to become a Certified Anesthesia Technologist in the preparation necessary to become an integral member of the anesthesia patient care team. The program emphasizes the fundamental and advanced clinical procedures to assist licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation, and application of various equipment required for the delivery of anesthesia care.

The Anesthesia Technology program is sequential didactic and clinical curriculum that prepares the student to be an integral member of the perioperative surgical and anesthesia patient care team. Emphasis is on fundamental and advanced didactic theories and clinical experiences that enable the student to assist anesthesia care providers in the perioperative delivery of anesthesia care to a variety of surgical patients. This experience will occur in a variety of clinical settings including: in-patient surgery, interventional and diagnostic radiology, post anesthesia care unit, intensive care unit, cardiac catheterization lab, emergency room, endoscopy suite, dental suites, and ambulatory surgery centers.
Student responsibilities include experience with hemodynamic monitoring and anesthesia equipment in the following areas: cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and recording of inspections and maintenance. Students will assist anesthesia providers with perioperative patient care including preoperative assessment, application of hemodynamic monitoring modalities, induction, airway management, patient positioning, maintenance, and emergence of anesthesia. Students will assist in post operative care of surgical patients in the post anesthesia care units. Students will gain experience in the insertion of peripheral IV’s, and assist the anesthesia care provider in the preparation, insertion, and maintenance of invasive lines.
